Establishment & Development

Grey and Pride (91/18327), founded in 2014, is the first and only registered charity in Hong Kong for the tongzhi (LGBTQ+) community aged 60+. The charity was inspired by Prof. Travis Kong’s book, Oral Histories of Older Gay Men in Hong Kong, which explores the complex lives, joys, and struggles of older gay men. Prof. Kong's work also inspired Ray Yeung’s award-winning 2019 film Suk Suk, which brought themes of aging and intimacy to light.
Our Women's Group supports middle-aged and older lesbians. The group was inspired by Prof. Denise Tang’s research and book, Oral Histories of Older Lesbians in Hong Kong, which shares their stories of overcoming marginalization. Prof. Tang is also the co-producer of the award-winning 2024 film All Shall Be Well.
Dr. Barry Lee is the Chairperson of Grey and Pride. He is an experienced social worker and counsellor, supervisor with over 20 years in the field. He is dedicated to providing support for marginalized groups, including the LGBTQ+ community, people living with HIV, and those within the mental health and neurodiversity communities.
